In 2014, Shaw Trust backed the creation of a new kind of education trust that could drive real change across schools and local communities.
Fast forward 11 years and Shaw Education Trust (SET) is now a multi-academy trust managing 31 schools, making a measurable difference to thousands of young people.
The success of SET has been built on the work of many, including dedicated staff, school leaders and partners. As sponsor, Shaw Trust are pleased to have played an important role in its development over the years.
Now, with the maturity SET has achieved, it is right that the relationship evolves. From this September, there is a move from Shaw Trust acting as a sponsor to being a strategic partner of a newly independent SET. This is a real success story for both SET and Shaw Trust.
As the UK’s biggest employment charity, Shaw Trust believe in nurturing not-for-profit organisations to grow, lead and stand on their own. Shaw Trust will continue working closely with SET, including exploring new ways to increase access to education, work and wellbeing. For example, we successfully collaborated in July this year to bring a week-long catering and hospitality work placement to a school for 30 young people with special educational needs.
While the structure is changing, our joint commitment to shared impact stays the same.
Reflecting on the changes, Shaw Trust Chair Olly Benzecry said:
“We are incredibly proud to have supported Shaw Education Trust on its journey. What it has achieved and its commitment to inclusive, high-quality education is a testament to its vision and leadership. We celebrate that this change is possible because SET is thriving and delivering its purpose at scale. Looking forward, we are excited by the possibilities of our strategic partnership with our sister not-for-profit”
SET Chair, Andrew Meehan said,
“This transition marks a milestone for Shaw Education Trust. Shaw Trust’s support has been invaluable, and we’re committed to working together on innovative projects to increase the impact we make in our communities”
